Type: digital logic puzzle game
Target group: preschoolers, primary school children, families
Recommended age group: 5+
Playing time: 5–15 minutes/level (depending on the complexity of the image)
Operating logic
The goal of the game is to assemble a complete picture by dragging scattered puzzle pieces into the correct places. The pictures consist of pre-cut pieces that are divided into rows and columns.
The basic mechanics of the game are drag-and-drop movements using the mouse (or touchscreen). Each piece has a clear location and only fits where it belongs. If the player drags a given piece to the right spot, it “snaps” into place and stays there.
The player sees the pieces in random order on a tray, from where they must place them one by one on the appropriate points on the playing field. Each successful placement is accompanied by sound and visual feedback.
A counter tracks the placement of the picture pieces during the game. The puzzle is considered complete when all the pieces are in place.
What does the Puzzle game develop?
Puzzle play contributes to development in complex ways:
- Spatial Perception : Players must visually recognize where a given piece fits into the overall picture.
- Fine motor skills : Moving pieces with a mouse or touchscreen requires dexterity.
- Attention and concentration : Accurate alignment requires attention, and success provides feedback.
- Problem Solving : The player must figure out the best strategy for solving the puzzle.
- Logical thinking : Arranging based on visual logic develops a sense of structure.
